Scouts (10½ - 14)

Monday 7.30pm - 9pm, Tuesday 7.45pm - 9.15pm and Wednesday 7.30pm - 9pm

Life as a Scout is an eye-opening adventure.

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

The Scout section is the third section in the Scout Group, following Beavers and Cubs, for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years old.

In their Troops, Scouts make friends with like-minded young people from all walks of life. Together, they will earn badges and awards by taking part in both indoor and outdoor activities.

When Scouts join they are 'invested' - making a promise to do their best and help others. Find the various versions of the Scout Promise below.

Activities

Earn badges, achieve awards and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime!

Scouts are encouraged to learn by doing, so our Scout Programme is filled with adventurous activities to develop their confidence, independence and skill set.

With their Scout Leader, Scouts will plan a variety of activities.

You can expect Scouts to get involved in activities such as:

  • Community impact projects
  • Creative activities
  • Backwoods cooking
  • Camping
  • Hiking
  • Sports
  • Water activities

Learn the Scout Promise

The Promise helps Scouts to understand and act in line with the values of Scouting; integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation. Help your child choose the right Promise for them.

For Muslims

In the name of Allah,
the Most Beneficial
and the Most Merciful,
I promise that I will
do my best
to do my duty to my Allah
and to the King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For Christians, Jews and Sikhs

On my honour,
I promise that I will
do my best
to do my duty to God
and to the King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For Hindus and Buddhists

On my honour,

I promise that I will
do my best
to do my duty to my
Dharma and to the King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For humanists, atheists and those with no defined faith

On my honour,
I promise that I will
do my best
to uphold our Scout values,
to do my duty to
the King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For subjects of independent Commonwealth countries, foreign nationals and individuals who are stateless, the following wording can replace 'duty to the King'

...to do my duty to the country in which I am now living.

Skills for Life

Scouts learn skills that are essential to building their character, helping others and developing an awareness of the world around them.

Scouting helps young people to develop:

  • The ability to work effectively in a team
  • Leadership skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Communication skills
  • A sense of responsibility

Peace of Mind

To ensure your child is safe, Leaders adhere to our anti-bullying, equal opportunities, safety and child protection policies.

Scouts take part in activities and learn new skills under the supervision of adult volunteers. They work effectively and safely with young people to deliver the Scouting Programme and have access to training to support them in their role.

If you have any questions, get in touch with your local Leader.
